Precautions for the Proper Use of Industrial Lubricating Grease
Date:2024.02.18

Industrial lubricating grease is one of the essential lubricating materials used in industrial equipment production. It mainly consists of three components: base oil, thickener, and additives. There are numerous types and grades of lubricating grease, generally classified by the type of thickener, such as hydrocarbon-based grease, inorganic grease, organic grease, and soap-based grease. Currently, the most commonly used industrial lubricating greases are calcium-based and lithium-based greases.

The working principle of lubricating grease is that the thickener holds the oil in the location where lubrication is needed. When under load, the thickener releases the oil, thereby providing lubrication.

Precautions for the proper use of industrial lubricating grease:

1. To prevent oil loss, hardening, water contamination, or deterioration, store lubricating grease in plastic containers in a cool, dry place. Do not use wooden or paper containers for packaging.

2. Before dispensing and applying lubricating grease, clean the grease fittings on the equipment thoroughly. Pay strict attention to the cleanliness of containers and tools to prevent the ingress of mechanical impurities, dust, and sand.

3. To avoid issues such as a drop in the dropping point, increased penetration, and decreased mechanical stability, avoid cross-contamination of grease containers and tools. Be cautious to prevent the mixing of different types, grades, and new and old lubricating greases.

4. When replacing with new grease, conduct a trial use before formal application. Before use, remove the old grease and clean the components thoroughly. When replenishing grease, squeeze out the old grease until new grease appears at the discharge port. As grease varieties and quality are constantly improving and changing, pay attention to the replacement of new grease when upgrading old equipment.

5. To ensure reliable lubrication, regularly add or replace lubricating grease. The timing for adding or replacing grease should be determined based on specific usage conditions to avoid waste.

6. Due to significant temperature differences between winter and summer in the equipment's operating environment, the consistency requirements for lubricating grease vary. Pay attention to timely seasonal grease changes.

Lubricating grease can flow like a liquid at high temperatures or under excessive external force. At room temperature and in a static state, it maintains its shape and adheres to metal surfaces without slipping or flowing. This unique fluidity allows lubricating grease to be used in locations where lubricating oil is unsuitable, providing better sealing and protection than lubricating oil.
